Our Plans for Building Expansion
|
An expansion of our current building facilities has been an ongoing topic of discussion for multiple years now. During the 1990s, we received three bequests totaling in the neighborhood of $300,000 that were clearly marked for "Building Expansion. This money sits in interest bearing accounts and came to us from Jeannette Jones, Annette Van Howe, and Grace Sutton. In 2001, the Congregation created a Long Range Planning Committee that did much research, surveying and thinking, and produced a multi-faceted report. Part of this report discusses our building hopes for the future. It was revisited and amended in 2002. The Congregation approved funding for initial architectural sketches and the moving of the playground. Here is the Evolution on Our Building Expansion from our present configuration to our most-recent aspirations:
The Building Expansion Committee invited David Rickard, a UUA Congregational Financial Consultant, one of eight who work with the Unitarian Universalist Association, to visit and assess our readiness to proceed. What we were looking at was a $700,000 construction project and a $400,000 capital campaign fund drive. Mr. Rickard spoke to the Board and then to the Congregation and filed a formal report. He suggested that we take a step back. He suggested that we build among ourselves a common vision of which this new building will be just a part. |
