A
February Update from David Fisher, Our District General Assembly Coordinator
- ID-Card Concerns: The General Assembly Planning Committee (GAPC), after further
conversation with President Bill Sinkford, Moderator Gini Courter, and the UUA Board
of Trustees (UUA), details their response in the following updated link. Please
check both sites if you have any current concerns on this issue:
http://www.uua.org/events/generalassembly/updatesannouncements/63328.shtml and
http://www.uua.org/events/generalassembly/updatesannouncements/61425.shtml.
My brief summary: After extensive examination and interchange amongst all concerned
parties, the UUA has decided GA 2008 will meet as planned in the Fort Lauderdale
(Broward County) Convention Center. The GAPC and the UU Ministers Association will add
programs centering on the issues of degradation of civil rights, and how we respond to
restrictions applied to those without government ID.
- Survey of Florida District Congregations: My straw poll of congregations asking for
a tally of those planning to attend GA and those aiming to volunteer, is incomplete at
this point. Of the four congregations reporting we have 20 planning to attend full time,
16 considering attending, and 4 attending 1 or 2 days. Of all those, 4 are considering
volunteering and 47 definitely want to volunteer. Altogether, we’ll need 200 volunteers
to make for a smoothly-running GA. Volunteer applications must be returned to the UUA
within the month of March, the cut-off date is March 31.
- GA Program Booklet: March 1st is the GAPC’s target date for sending out the preliminary
Program booklet along with Registration forms and Volunteer Application forms. These
items will also be downloadable from the UUA/GA website http://www.uua.org/events/generalassembly/
