We are very excited to celebrate our 17th year of service with our Annual Earth Day Work-Day & Potluck BBQ on Saturday, April 23th from 8am-1pm. We are finally back after 2 years of COVID crazy, our last Earth Day work-day was in 2019!  So this year we want to go the extra mile and we are back at Hugh Taylor Birch State Park.  This year we will be weeding the old south playground area that was recently removed.  It will be rebuilt but needs to be weeded and cleaned-up first!  They have asked us to do it, or at least make a good start.

This is a potluck BBQ, so please bring either a side dish or healthy desert or a beverage and ice.  If you can bring a cooler that would be great too.  We will definitely be trying to be as environmentally conscious and responsible as possible, we will have reusable cutlery, plates, cups, etc.

PLEASE bring a refillable water bottle as the park is trying to discourage the use of plastics generally.

Please come prepared to work.  Bring gloves, tools (esp. weeding tools, clippers, loppers, small shovel or trowel, etc.), and wear clothes appropriate for working in a garden outside (closed shoes, long pants and shirts, hats, bug spray, sunscreen, etc.).

SCHEDULE

8am – Gather at the Live Oak Pavilion, drop off your donation to the potluck, safety talk and directions

8:30-11:30am - Weeding in the old south playground that has been removed.  It is located at #8 on

the park map near the Banyan Tree area.

12pm-1pm – BBQ lunch at the Live Oak Pavilion

We will organize into two teams - the Cooks and the Workers.  PLEASE RSVP  for the BBQ by email or phone.  If you want to help in the kitchen let us know in advance as there are a limited number of people required for this job.  We will supply water, chick dogs, hamburgers, boca burgers, condiments, reuseable plates and cutlery.

To RSVP or for more information,

please contact Janine at 954-558-6359 / dragnfli@bellsouth.net
